Hi there, I have a intermittent problem where on occasions ill turn my pc on it will boot into windows but with the monitor showing as no signal, and the only way I can get back to windows is to boot into safe mode and system restore to the day before !?! however just a few moments ago it did it again so I attempted to go into safe mode...it starts loading the drivers pauses, the screen goes blank and you briefly see the mouse cursor, then the signal dies and the pc restarts! it was impossible to get into safe mode or do anything, i tried booting from the disc etc to no avail then randomly its allowed me back into windows...so I am just wondering what may be the root cause of the problem so I can prevent loosing my pc!!

My full spec is :

Intel C2D E6575 @ stock (pci-e soundcard wont work with overclock :-( )
Mobo: Gigabyte p31-ds3L
4gb Crucial DDR2 800mhz
seagate 500gb sata
Powercolor Radeon 4850 512MB

Thanks in advance for your help :)

Do a physical bios reset (jumper on your mobo, check the manual) and try booting without any unnecassary components - sound card etc.

hi, thanks for the reply..some time ago I did try that resetting the bios etc and it still did it. As I type im transferring all my photo's etc over to a pen drive ive learnt my lesson on not backing up files :) Im really stuck on this one though, I cant see it being a problem with windows as its a very recent fresh install, and it just seems to be hardware related...but I could be wrong.

Iv had similar problems recently and it was a faulty stick of ram causing the grief. If you have more than one try booting with just a single stick.

Also try re-seating your graphics card.

ram? lol last thing I would have thought of, yeah if it happens again ill take out one see what happens, could it be the graphics card? ive re seated it a few times and it allways happens again a few days later, my previous card was a 8800gt and it never happend with that, but I cant see how that would have prevented safe mode from working hmmm lol
