Here's a weird one for ya:
I got a new motherboard yesterday (Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R) and reassembled my system to use it, including a format and reinstall of Vista 64.
My monitor's a Dell 2407 and my graphics card is an 8800 GTX. Neither of which I've had any problems with before. Both were working fine with my old mobo.
When Vista had finished installing I installed the chipset drivers and rebooted, then installed the latest graphics drivers and rebooted again.
Upon the second reboot (after graphics drivers), the loading bar showed, then the screen went black. a few seconds later I heard the logon sound, but my monitor went into standby. I hit the reset switch but the same thing happens on every boot.
After a lot of playing around with different versions of drivers and a couple of reinstalls of Vista I found if I plug the monitor into the second DVI output on my card it'll come out of standby, but only detects the monitor as "Generic non-PnP", so I can only set my res to something like 1024x768. If I reinstall the graphics drivers and reboot, the monitor goes into standby again, but switching to DVI 1 on the card redetects the monitor as before.
I've tried manually installing the monitor drivers (though I previously ran it without drivers no problem), which completes successfully, but again on reboot it goes into standby and shows as a generic monitor again.
Now onto the weird bit. If I use the VGA input on my monitor with a VGA to DVI adaptor on the other end of the VGA cable to connect to my card, the monitor's detected no problem and I'm able to set the res right up to 1920x1200.
The only thing I can think is maybe the DVI cable's suddenly gone dodgy, but that seem very coincidental with a new motherboard, though I don't see how a motherboard could affect the graphics card output, particularly if it's working fine over VGA.
Unless it's the DVI input on the monitor. Again very coincidental if it is.
I don't have any spare DVI cables to test, and I've not tried the monitor with another PC as it'll be a pain in the arse to start moving stuff about, so I'll wait for your suggestions first.
