Monitor not working on startup

Hello folks,

First of all, correct forum?

Last night was the first time I've experienced this annoyance in which my monitor doesn't turn on when my PC is booting up. The little box in the top left-hand corner that flickers 'Digital/Analog' appears followed by a floating box 'Check signal cable'. A simple push of the restart button did the trick and off I was to desktop heaven.

Now, tonight's problem... I came home and turned on my PC for a bit of RIFT, no monitor. Hit the restart button, no monitor. Rinse and repeat this for a couple (read 5 or 6) more times and eventually I saw my monitor come to life and ended up on the desktop, safe and sound.

DVI cables are securely in place, I'd end up shearing the screws if I tightened them any tighter.

I'm at a loss, if anybody could shine some light on this, it'd be much appreciated.

im no expert but the symptoms sound a lot like a loose cable/connection if not externally maybe internally.

make sure to check both ends of the cable pc and monitor just a suggestion.

if your feeling confident enough i would suggest disconnecting all the cables at the back remove the cover and give the whole thing a bit of a clean with the hoover and while your on just check to make sure all the componants are well seated in the machine and nothing stands out as been loose.

then re connect everything and see how you go.
 
I have this over DVi, its something like the monitor doesnt set automatically to the resolution and if its too high, it wont display.

This only happens with me though if I turn the monitor on like 5 seconds+ after the PC is turned on.

The PC was rebuilt last Friday and thoroughly cleaned beforehand, so I'd be surprised if it was related to that.

I don't have another cable nor a monitor to try unfortunately, everything seems secure enough.

Funny you should mention this, I feel I may have been wandering after turning on my PC, coming back and turning the monitor on with no picture. However that wouldn't explain why there would be no picture on reboot, as the monitor is already switched on.
 
I've got it in the other DVI connector as of one minute ago, but who knows... I won't know if that's solved the issue until it messes up again.
