monitor on standby when computer loads up

Hi their need some help please my computer has been running fine all day switched it off for about 30 mins then tried to reboot
When i reboot their is 1 long beeb and 1 short beeb then it loads up as normal, but my pc monitor stays on stanby and all i face is a blank screen
Im using windows xp i havent installed any new hardware and my power supply is less than 1 yr old please can u help
My motherboard is a gigabyte GA_965p_DS3 socket 775 pci express ddr2

Sounds like the card, don't you have a old one to swap out, I would also open and check that the card is seated properly ..check ram at the same time make sure they all in properly, maybe try booting with only 1 stick at a time and see if it boots?

Just to confirm, can you here the hard disc activity and possible windows startup tune through your pc speakers.

yes i can hear all the hard disk activity as normal dont hear the windows sound as i have turned that off

Do you have the possibilty of testing a another gpu, also try a CMOS reset.

Resets the BIOS to default as the BIOS may of thrown a wobler.

Remove the battery or find the CLR CMOS pins on the board and short for a few seconds.
Your manual will show the location.

Varies from motherboard to motherboard but may involve.

1) Removing the battery on the motherboard for a bit.
2) Pressing the CMOS reset button.
3) Switching a jumper from pins 2,3 to 1,2 and then back again.

This sets your motherboard back to default settings in the hope that it'll correct whatever issue is causing your graphics card not to send a signal to the monitor.

Edit: After a very quick google it seems there is a clear cmos jumper under the graphics card somewhere. Check your motherboard manual for it's precise location and what to do with it.

It would not matter, also as you were overclocked I suspect this has coursed the problem.
Hopefully a CMOS reset should help, but you will be at stock.

right ive removed the battery and still nothing, the fan on the graphics card is spinning around aswell

right so ive changed my graphics card from an ati x700 to a hd 6850 and it kind of worked u see it loading up, up to when the windows xp sign on and the little cursor thing goes from left to right soon as its finished it the computer is still loading but the screen comes on standy again and says mode not supported please can u help

yep u are correct i had to get a smaller screen then updated the drivers then went back to the bigger screen
