Monitor or GPU on its way?

Hi all

got an intresting issue going on here.

I have a 30" Dell ips monitor which today started to cycle dim and bright every second or so. Turning the monitor off stopped it and after a while the issue started again.

Been out for a few hours (monitor off and pc on). Turned on the monitor and after about 10 mins it displayed a 1 pixel wide line down the right hand side of the screen! Turned off the monitor turned it on again and the line remained. 1 minute later the line disapeared and so far hasnt returned. Ive also not had the dimming issue yet (only been 20 mins though).


So is it the monitor or my GTX590 at fault? This setup has been fine and nothing has changed recently.

not testing on another screen as yet but the fact that turning the monitor on and off effects the symptoms makes me lean towards the monitor?

Whats your thoughts gurus? Oh just to add this is on the desktop not in game
 
I would be tempted to say the monitor, i dont see how your graphics card has any relation to the brightness of the screen. Do you have any warranty left on the monitor?
 
despite the fact you have one of the most unreliable graphics cards on the planet it sounds like its a problem with the monitor.

does your motherboard have any onboard graphics?
if it does, then you could test the monitor with your onboard graphics to see if you still get the same problem
 
Sadly no onboard graphics im afraid.

Ive spoken to Dell and they are sending me a new monitor out for delivery tomorrow :D

So fingers crossed that will fix the issue, if not so begins the process of RMA to OC, who to be fair have been good also in the past. Would just mean no pc for a bit.

Ref having the most unreliable card on the planet. Nah, perhaps the most none over clockable card on the planet. However my card has not (nor will it) see an overclock. Dont want a fire on my hands lol.

a shame you dont have any onboard graphics. i take it you dont have an old graphics card lying around you could borrow either.

also, you say that its just not overclockable, but the 590's have been known to overheat at standard clocks and voltages
 
Im sceptical on the whole overheat issue as stock. Then the rumours of a board update (which isnt true). Think its a lot of ATI fan boyism lol.

Ive been using mine without a spot of bother since launch (well providing its not causing this issue lol).

Im quite convinced its the monitor as ive noticed its still dimming but very slowly then starting again lol.

The test will be tomorrow with the new monitor. 69 days left of the warranty (cutting it fine), think a £50 upgrade for a further years cover is needed
 
well new monitor arrived from Dell this morning.

Happy to say they have upgraded me to the newer u3011 screen so im a happy camper!!!

Screen flashing has now stopped as has the yellow line issue. Looks like it was indeed the monitor.

Never doubted by gtx590 hahaha much
