Hi Guys,

I have a Gateway 21" widescreen monitor, tower unit running XP home and I can't seem to solve this problem. Monitor delivered new and working fine then after approximately 8 months develops this fault. When booting up a logo comes on screen with the words DVI connection, should stay on show for 5 to 10 seconds during boot process but now stays on show right through to desktop loading and still a further 30 to 45 seconds before it disappears.

When turning system off by start/turn off tower unit turns off within 10 seconds at most and monitor should then go straight to standby. It did for the same length of time as above but now stays on showing a black screen for approximately 3 minutes then goes into standby with power light changing from blue to orange.

Gateway changed the monitor for me at 10 months and all was fine for a further 4 months then exactly the same thing starts again. Yet another new monitor from Gateway even though I'm now 3 months out of warranty, everything working fine as it should but once again approx 3 months later its doing the same thing. Naturally Gateway will not replace the monitor for a third time as they feel its a problem with the PC which is only 12 months old and a quality custom build.

Can anyone think what may be causing this to happen please as it has me stumped completely.

Thank you for your reply t31os. I will be able to try another machine over the next day or so to see if its the PC or monitor at fault. One more thing I was able to try after thinking about it tonight was to shut down my system as normal then turn off the power switch at rear of tower unit to see if it would kill the signal to the monitor but it made no difference and the monitor still took the same time to go into standby.

I know its strange to have the exact same fault occur to 3 monitors now but I still can't get my head round why they work perfect for several months each before throwing a wobbly.
Apart from this annoying fault they are superb monitors and one of the best displays I have had or seen.

Well guys I've just found this site with loads of users saying they have the exact same problem with their 21" model. Most are on the second, third or fourth replacement during the warranty period. When I spoke to Gateway this afternoon they said they had not had other users reporting this problem, I was the first and that is why its probably my PC causing the problem.

I shall be in touch with Gateway again tomorrow but where do you think I stand as it seems to be a design fault with the monitor. http://deliverator.silverfir.net/?p=369#comment-95762 If you scroll down the link a little you'll see they all have the same problem. :(
