Hi guys, i'm currently running my PC through my 32" samsung LCD TV, but i've heard that monitors can give a much more immersive experience. Can anyone give me their opinion on the difference between a 1920x1080 27" monitor such as the asus VE278Q and my 32" tv?

thanks in advance!

How can a smaller monitor give you a more immersive experience? While opinions may vary, that sounds like smelly stuff... I would put a nice big TV over a small monitor any day. I game on a 24" monitor occasionally but prefer playing on either one of my 32" or 50" TVs. The bigger screens fill your area of vision and IMHO give a more 'immersive' experience.

It really depends how far you sit from your TV, if you have it setup like a monitor on a desk and sit a couple of feet from it as you would do with a monitor then it's better to have a larger TV if you game (depends on the TV latency of course too if gaming), but if you use the pc for work stuff a monitor will probably be easier on the eyes over time.

If you use the TV and sit on the sofa then yes a monitor will be better on a desk and you sat a couple of feet from it. It's a different experience when laying on the sofa and gaming, I like to do that too in the living room, but I find sitting in front of a monitor at the correct distance is more immersive.

Potential issues with gaming on a TV are poor pixel density and input lag. For casual gaming seated a reasonable distance away a TV can work out fine. I prefer the clarity and response times of a monitor

I'm guessing you haven't tried a 27" 1440p monitor

I prefer most of my gaming on a 40" LCD (with m/kb when required) compared to my 22" monitor.
Having tried it on other big screen TV's with blatant input lag issues, I do see where a lot of people are coming from with the negativity though.

Last time I mentioned this, someone did the usual exaggerate to make a point thing and said something about 'golf ball sized pixels'... Who sits with their face pressed up against a big screen? (apart from toddlers watching cbeebies of course).

Prefer TV here, I have a PC setup on the living room 50" which is where I play all my games, though you do have to be a bit selective with the TV as some have awful input lag, mine has 7ms which I cannot notice, but the TV it replaced had around 50ms which was too high for FPS games.

Going to try and give the kiss of life to this thread - save starting another.

What are peoples' opinions on smal screen i.e. 23-27 inch [ yes I consider 27 small :p ] vs a larger screen - 32+?

For the argument I would like to consider resolution negligible as there are now 1440p 32 inch monitors out there not to mention a plethora of 4k devices.

My main wondering is, do you find gaming close to a smaller display more immersive than sitting further back from a bigger display?

I recently installed a wall arm for my monitor (27 inch) and find that when I extend it out closer to my racing chair I do find the experience more immersive but that could just be me.

There is also a BenQ 32 1440p monitor in the house and when I use it for Pc gaming I find I have to sit further back and although the distance to size ratio compared with my 27 is probably fairly similar I just think the 27 is better.

Any thoughts?

Ive been using a Sony 19" Flat screen for the past 8 or 9 years now. Not a wide screen

Before this ive always had a Dell 17" i think it was should still have it at parents house.

In work im using a 24" HKC monitor for graphics & web design with a smaller dell 19" both wide screen

boss is recently using a 27" imac and i was impressed at the brightness and screen size.

my plan was to buy a G-Sync 28" 4K monitor as i feel its a happy medium between quality / size / few distance.

My mate is not a gamer at all. he doesnt even have a tv in the house but he uses a monitor from a Airpot as he says the brightness is fantastic and the Contrast is fantastic True Black he claims.

Graphic work just seemed to Pop on his monitor i cant remember the screen size im sure it was about 28" easy
