Monitor picture staining

I've picked up a (very) cheap 18" NEC 1810x which apart from being a bit of a beast is putting out a reasonable picture through DVI digital - however there is a discolouration down each side noticeable with light backgrounds..

Just age or can anything be done ?

If not it'll be relegated to one of the kids machines..

probably due to panel uniformity issues. See if trying it on another machine helps at all, also maybe play with the OSD settings for brightness, contrast and colours helps. That's about all you can try really, likely just to be age showing.
