i bought a monitor last year called ASUS VS248HR. when i started using it i had sound issues where i could not hear a thing. eventually i figured out that the monitor had its own headphone jack, and this prevented me from using the headphone jack of my pc. this also applies to my microphone, where i cannot connect it to my pc anymore and so i have to use discord on my phone to talk

i was not too bothered, but i recently bought a pair of new headphones and have been hearing this buzzing sound repeatedly. when the headphone is connected to any other source there is no buzzing. it seems like this is to do with the monitor.

how can i fix this? previous headphones worked fine with the pc. this new one is more advanced and cost much more but works well with any other device.

when i select 'turn off audio' the sound issue dissapears. yes, i am connected via hdmi.

i feel like it is a sound card issue but my sound has been working fine until using this monitor

here is my specs just in case:

motherboard: Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
ram: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory

psu: Corsair CX 500W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply

OK I don't know your specific hardware...but...sound should be driven by the video card through the HDMI cable to the monitor. Whether this actually works comes down to the video card you have and whether you have the correct drivers installed..and of course you are using an HDMI cable. If you can get it working it will free up the audio jacks on the PC so you can use the headphones as well. You just need to switch between the monitor and speakers in Windows sound configuration to say whether the sound goes to the monitor or the headphones.
So I would investigate why that is not working for your PC.
