My existing monitor, a Samsung 2443BW 24 Inch needs upgrading, so I am hoping for some recommendations please.

I want to spend £200-£300 to get a decent IPS panel (23 or 24 inch)
I do like the look of the Dell UH2311, or Benq XL2410T 24" (on this week only which is a bonus)

I will keep existing screen as a secondary, but I am not planning on doing any eyefinity stuff for now. (not too bothered about 3D, but I guess having something compatible will be good)

Cheers in advanced

Considering your budget, I would strongly recommend the U2311H. Its a is a quality monitor using an E-IPS panel, is nice and responsive, comes with a solid 3 year warranty and a really nice stand. Here is an in-depth review.

The BenQ on the other hand uses a TN panel, but high price is due to it running at a 120Hz refresh rate and being very responsive (which is particularly good when playing fast-paced games). However, due to the panel technology it's image quality and viewing angles are not nearly as good as an IPS panel (like the one use in the U2311H). Here is an in-depth review. Also, since this panel is 120Hz, then it will work with Nvidia's 3D system.

If you want an IPS 24in - then the 1920x1200 res (16:10 aspect ratio) HP ZR24W uses an E-IPS panel and costs just over your budget at ~£320. Here is an in-depth review.

Thanks the the advise on the Ben Q (I am definitely after an IPS panel)
Between the HP ZR24W, and the Dell U2311H, which do you feel is best (taking size out of the equation) (I'd push the budget to £320 if I feel it's worth it?)

I do a lot of web based stuff, (forums etc), so I want a screen with crisp, crystal clear text.

Personally, I feel the ZR24W is worth the extra, mainly due to the extra resolution and better (IMHO) 16:10 aspect ratio, which means it is taller and has a higher vertical resolution compared to a comparable 24in 16:9 1080p monitor.

This page shows how the HP panel size compares to the Dell U2311H. As you can see- it is a fair bit taller, which is useful if you are doing a lot of web stuff (which makes good use of extra height, but not width).

That said, if you plan to do a fair bit of gaming - then I would suggest either going with the U2311H or start saving up for the U2410 - since the ZR24W doesn't seem to implement overdrive too well a (which is meant to reduce the pixel response time) and TFT central suggest you switch it off (since it is too aggressive and makes movement look even worse) - which means you are stuck with a relatively sluggish response time compared to the Dells (both of which are good for gaming - especially the U2311H).

Ahhh, the choices!!!
The U2410 looks dam good! Best of all worlds I guess! Web Stuff and gaming.
I also do a lot of coding in visual studio, if that makes any difference.

So, choice of 3 now I guess!! (edging towards the U2410 now).

one thing on the U2410 is that it has been out for a while, so dell may release an updated IPS panel soon (ish)
I am not in a huge hurry tbh, so would it be worth holding out for a bit?

I guess it's like anything in computing, you can hold off forever, but sometimes you just have to take the plunge!
If the u2410 drops in price due to an update, I imagine a lot of people will pick one up.

I've been doing the same kind of research as you winbourne and I've come to the conclusion of the U2311H - the panel, viewing angle, reviews, quality have all made it a win.

I'm aware that people still have preferences regarding 16:9/10, but nearly everywhere i've read says 16:9 is the future for gaming, so if you're interested in an easy life and don't want to change monitor again for a while, maybe that might be the deciding factor?

ive been using the Dell 2408 for the last few years now and its still one the best things ive bought ,i would recommend the 2410 even thou they aint cheap

yeah, I was pondering the 16:9 - 16:10 choice!
I think I prefer the extra height TBH!

Can't see games not supporting 16:10 screens however!
