It's a 24 " DGM (yeah, I know) LCD monitor which has worked perfectly for 2 years or so. For the last 3 or 4 weeks the monitor will randomly go to a black screen or to a black screen with vertical coloured lines before fading normally to a completely black screen.

Ok, stuff that has me confused :

1. When this happens I turn the monitor off on its panel for a second and turn it back on and the monitor works perfectly until this happens again. No hard reboot is required.
2. The PC continues to run perfectly well even if the screen has gone black, ie it is not crashing. If I'm gaming, the game music continues. If I move the mouse and therefore the cursor, when I turn the screen back on (see 1), it's moved to where it should have.
3. I thought it was random but whilst playing 'King's Bounty : Armoured Princess' tonight, I realised that it did this EVERY single time a battle finished. For those who don't have the game, it goes to a 'holding' screen whilst it loads the main game back up. Is something triggering this behaviour?
4. This will happen when browsing forums but there appears to be no pattern to when (even if) it will happen.

So, anyway, does anyone have any idea what this could be, other than a shoddy DGM screen? I now live in New Zealand and can't return it ;)

Could it be the GPU? It's an ATI 4870 and I've tried both outputs on the back of the card - no difference. Nothing is overclocked and I actually tried underclocking both CPU and GPU to ensure heat was not an issue.

Thoughts?

It's most likely to be the screen, I have one of these myself here in work at the moment, it goes white on boot, white on inactivity, white on gaming, white on anything demanding and you have to panel it on and off.

Do you have any onboard graphics you could test it on? This would allow you to determine whether or not it is the screen, or you could hook the screen up to another PC / laptop to test it on that.

Mine started to do that after 2 years,

I sent one of mine to germany for a repair 2 weeks ago.

Yuraku and DGM use the same company and that company are VERY slow at repairs but they do keep you informed and also actualy do repair them.

if yours is a PVA and you get it repaired i very much doupt you will get a PVA pannel back :P
