Hi All,

I've got an LG 34UC87 ultrawide monitor (bought it when they first came out, so out of warranty now) and have started having some markings on the screen.

Noticed them a month or two ago, and look like water stains. Quite bad when turned on from cold but tend to be far less noticeable once it's been on for a while.

Cleaning the screen didn't help so looks to be inside. Warranty expired so nothing ventured.....

I carefully dismantled the monitor and took out the screen. Separated the LCD panel from the backlight and had a look around. No obvious staining that I could see on either. Cleaned the back of the lcd panel with alcohol wipes, and removed the thin back light plastic layers/diffusers. Again, nothing there. Getting them back in without hairs or dust was a nightmare though - they get static easily. :O

All back together now - and stains still remain. :( Also for some reason the screen seems a little darker at the top now when viewing straight ahead but seems fine when viewing from an elevated angle... odd, since I didn't touch the actual led back light and put the diffusers back in as I found them.

Is this looking like an lcd panel defect rather than a moisture stain?

Might be a good excuse to go for a new monitor - the new lg nano-ips ones maybe. :)

Not fixed the stain effect, but sorted out the darkness issue. Dismantled the backlight again and had a good look. It's bottom lit only and there was a one way mirror like lens panel which I had the wrong way around. Flipped it over and all nice and evenly lit again.

Have ended up with a couple of dust particles in there even though I tried to be extra vigilant. :( Will do me until I can get hold of something better. :)
