Monitor setting confusion

Hi there,

I'm a little confused and I'm hoping someone can help me out.

I currently use a dell 2713h monitor. At present i don't have the hardware colour calibrator to go with it. I did however download the three icc profiles from tft central, i also downloaded the quick switcher which i have in my task bar at the bottom of the screen.

The download contained three profiles, Srgb, Argb and custom.

This is where i get it all mixed up.

The monitor its self also has a number of presets, which can be selected from the task bar via the dell icon/button. The monitor has 2 modes, automatic and manual. I dont like the automatic as it jumps around way to much when moving between applications. The manual mode has amongst others, Srgb, Argb and custom.

When I work with photographs i like to work in Argb and output as Srgb for the web.

Should I be setting the icc profile and the monitor both to Argb?

What would be the better setting for internet/movies/games ect Srgb or the custom setting? Does it matter? I use google chrome and im not sure if that is colour adjusted, not that i fully get what thats about.

If you can help it would be appreciated.

Just thought, when im working in lightroom its default from raw is to use prophoto, now im even more confused as to where Argb fits in.

Ahh thanks,

so when i want to edit in lightroom, i select Argb on the monitor, then also set the icc profile to Argb, set them both to the same basically. Repeat for other settings.
