Monitor Setup Decisions

Hi there!

I’m looking to update my monitor setup, but as always with the dizzying amount of options there are, I’m running myself in circles, not least with a debate around using an OLED TV or not.

My current tangent is:
1no. LGC5 42” or 48” - LG OLED42C54LA 42 inch OLED evo 4K (Richer Sounds)
2no. Dell 24” or 27” monitors in vertical arrangement either side of the LG.

Budget is £1500

It would be good to hear your thoughts and opinions on this.

Computer Specs –
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D
GC: Saffire NITRO+ AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT OC
RAM: 64GB
Currently rocking a 5 year old Dell UltraSharp 49 U4924DW Monitor on a 95cm deep (also very wide) desk.

Thanks.
Rob

Just to try and clarify thoughts - what are peoples opinions on a OLED TV as a monitor vs the real thing. Is it worth going down the tv route or going nuts for the forthcoming LG 39" Ultrawide 165Hz [39GX950B], for example?

Basically I'm looking for something big, that eliminates the ultrawide height issue.
Thanks.

Buying an UW probably not a good idea then.

I use a 42” OLED that cost around £600. I can put it in ultra wide if I really wanted as that feature is built in.
I can game at 4k 120hz (newer ones are 144 I think) with GSYNC. That’s real enough for me

Thanks. The LG C5 is certainly dragging me in. Lets see if theres a price crash at somepoint, like there was with the C4.

Mind if I ask which 42" you are using? Have you used a you used a jail break remote with it to alter its performance in anyway (e.g. stopping auto-dimming?

I think there isn't a lot to compete with them price/size wise, I've seen 27" screens for nearly double that didn't have GSYNC (I'm unsure how freesync compares) However I also appreciate why some would find 42" to big, on my 80cm(d) desk it's just right.

No not done anything like that, I just used some recommended settings I found online and went with it. I think it used to be quite aggressive but was altered via a firmware update yonks ago (*auto-dimming, I'm on an LGC2)

A c5 42" can be had for £630 atm with various discount schemes.

LG Direct with BLC/HSD/EPP code, though I got it wrong that was the 48" price, 42" is 705 No I was right, I think they changed the price again. Apparently the drop to around 500 in May but that is based on previous model.
