Monitor stays in standby.

Hi all I have a very strange problem with my computer. If the whole thing is switched off (monitor and PC) and I turn the PC on without first turning the monitor on, the monitor will not work when I do turn it on. It remains in standby mode until I hit the reset button on the computer.

Any ideas whether it might be the monitor flaking out, or the graphics card?

Dunno, but for the easy test try sticking another monitor onto it (should you have/be able to borrow one)...
