I'm looking at getting a new monitor from 28" to 34" to be used for basic office work and watching movies/YouTube etc. There will definitely be no gaming done on it.

What would be the main things to look for?
Panel type? Va, ips or something else?
21:9 or 16:9?
1440p? Or full 4k?
Contrast?

It's a minefield out there!

I was thinking of these:

Edit: sorry should have mentioned max budget about £350-400?

I would go IPS, as richer colours to VA.

16:9 will do for work and movies. Only go 21:9 if you really want it.

1440p would be good enough for work and movies. Only get 4K if you want ultra detail, and you're buying 32"+ I would say.

I would start by looking at LG and Dell monitors, maybe Iiyama too. If you want to support OCUK they also have some gaming monitors that would suit you, although you don't need the higher refresh rate:

I've got a 32" Iiyama monitor but it's VA. It's Japanese, well made and does the job. I'm happy with it, although I would rather have an IPS. I think the Iiyama one would also be better for work as it's flat.

I think I'm almost set on getting a 34" curved ultrawide now, probably a bad idea but 'think' it will be ok.

Curved monitors can be adequate for work, if not ideal.

The Samsung monitor looks good value. I've got a VA monitor and I find it fine, although sometimes a little bright even on the lowest setting. IPS would give you better colours, but they're more money. You don't really need 4K, I'd say 2560x1440 is fine.

OCUK also has these but they're both flat:

iiyama 32" GB3271QSU-B1 2560x1440 IPS 165Hz 1ms FreeSync Premium Widescreen LED Backlit Gaming Monitor £319.99

MSI 32" G321Q 2560x1440 IPS 170Hz 1ms FreeSync/G-Sync Gaming Monitor £228.95

Would there be any downside in getting either of the following purely for office work and media consumption?
