monitor switching off

hi my lcd monitor sometimes it's ok but then sometimes more often than not keeps switching it self off then on then off then on ,,,,,

when the pc is off and monitor is on standbuy the monitor makes a click and then goes off stand buy and on again every 5 seconds continually,,, when the pc is turned on the frequency of this on off no off goes up ,,,,,, then some times it is fine and works as it should ,,,,,,

is there a known cause for this action that could be fixed or would we say the monitor has had it's time
