Hello i have this setup for my new computer and i have installed everything to the best of my knowledge but i have

one problem. The pc starts booting up and monitor turns off.Does anyone know what the problem is and how to fix it?

I should mention is i'm reusing my old power supply from old computers which is about 500w.

I can't connect my monitor directly to vga on video card doesn't have. I have done it through the included external connector which has white backround.

The odd thing is when the cable is not connected the monitor says to check signal cable. I think i got to mention that my monitor is old dell crt which can get 1280-1024 resolution? Another thing is that this video card has two black connectors whith 6 holes. I have only connected one and i hope that is correct

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550
Asus Rampage Formula Intel X48
G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PK PC2-8500C5
Asus ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB

Anyone have any clue? I don't know what to do

The monitor is switching off because it's not receiving a signal.

Check that the 4870 is seated properly in the PCI-E slot and that any necessary power connectors are attached to it.

And if that doesnt fix it it could well be a lack of power, I assume thats an unbranded 500W PSU, invest in a decent make PSU in range of 6-700 Watts if I were you

What do you mean? Is this inside? or outside connectors?

If theyre inside and youre referring to the 2 PCI-E power connectors they both need to be connected

Im not quite sure with your original post, Is it working at all? do you see the POST screen and it turns off whilst booting? or is it not working at all?
If its the latter its possibly faulty card, try a different card if you can borrow one from someone, you might have to RMA it

i think it may not be video card problem although it has led lights as red. i have taken the video card out the motherboard hoping that i have on board graphics card to test it but even without it the monitor shuts off. i don't see anything when i power up computer. the monitor just appears to be switching on and then shut off. could it be something else?

What are the red LED's doing?
are they staying on? coming on then going off? how many?

D1601 - Red LED On, shows critical temperature fault

D1602 - Red LED On, shows External power connector A was removed

D1603 - Red LED On, shows External power connector B was removed

D601 - Red LED On, shows critical Core power fault

At BOOT/POST, the card's fan will spin @ 100% for a short while and 3 of the 4 LEDs will light up for a brief period and then go out ( D601 should remain unlit ). This is NORMAL behaviour as the card is performing it's own type of POST test

okay it just booted to bios and everything is working great :)

i forgot to plug 8-pin eps +12v power plug into the motherboard. it was covered by cap so didn't realise i needed to remove it.

thanks for all your help and suggestion

A stab in the dark here. I had an old belinea crt monitor and if I set the resolution too high it would turn itself off after the cmos screen and the green light used to flash on the monitor.

Could be that too
i forgot to plug 8-pin eps +12v power plug into the motherboard haha

Have you got the 8-pin EATX +12v socket connected to the PSU?

Are you getting any beeps when it powers up?

No beep = bad news - system is not getting as far as the POST.
One short beep = POST successful, system should boot.
One long beep, two short beeps (repeated) = no memory detected
One long beep, three short beeps = no VGA detected
One long beep, four short beeps = hardware component failure

[EDIT]Ok, downloading the mobo manual and typing this took far too long! First guess was spot on, though :D
