Hi, i currently use a 24" DGM and 21" belinia dual (both TN panels) and find them great.

I'm looking to replace an old CRT tv in my room to go down the flatscreen route. In looking inch for inch (talking below 30") PC monitors seems to be significantly cheaper? What is the reason for this?

It would be useful for me to replace the 21" i have and use the 24 + new larger monitor. But i'm not sure on the connections i would need:
Some monitors have HDMI inputs, so i could put my Wii through this, but would scart to HDMI (say from a freeview box) create a good image? (so i don't have to have my PC on).

Finally any thoughts on the LG 27" combo monitor: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...d=1120&subcat=

Thanks for reading

So i've been looking around a i now think a 24" would be more suitable. I've found HDMI to DVI coverters, but i can't find a freeview box (a fairly cheap one) that outputs HDMI, would scart to dvi/vga work? Hows the picture going to be?

Theres the Samsung HD range, the T240HD (which I have a thread about hoping for responses) that has an intergrated digital tuner for freeview and ariel cable input.

Fenris - I'm not really that keen on the red around the samsungs, maybe just me.

Has anyone ever tried anything like this:

Or a component to VGA

Was having in mind to try plugging a freeview box (scart to component converter) into my current PC scren (DGM 24"). Would this work if i plug that together? I'm not in danger of damaging anything if i try it?

If you're using it as a TV, go with a TV - pick up a cheap 26" TV; it will do the job better than a TN panel monitor.

The TN will have poor viewing angles, so if you want to use it with your Wii moving around at all, or watch it with mates etc you will really struggle. Have a hunt around, I'm sure you can pick up a cheap Samsung or LG 26" TV for £250 or so...it will do the job a lot better.

manic111 - Thats a good point i hadn't thought of. It'll be in my bedroom/study so when viewing it will be from largely the same angle. I've found my DGM actually has pretty resonable viewing angles, at least good enough for what i'd like to do.

It will be used as my secondary monitor also. A TV will be pretty bad at this? For Excel sheets/webpages/etc

If you got for a real 26" TV make sure its 1080P and can except whatever connection you use from you PC at that res.

TVs tend to have processing that improves moving images and other video aspects, but this can increase input lag. (some have a game mode that turns off the processing)

I've got a Samsung SM2333HD, viewing angles are as you'd expect on a TN panel, fine if your the only viewer. Picture quality via HDMI (xbox 360) is great. As is DVI from the PC. Also pretty reasonable for older standard deff consoles via scart.
