Hi,

I was looking for some advice on a decent monitor, I've searched the internet for absolutely weeks now and cannot find one (i honestly don't understand all of the terminology)

I really want it for gaming, Overwatch, PUBG, Arma, and Destiny 2 (on launch) currently have an older 24" Samsung Sync master, so really nothing special.

I'm not to bothered and look or design, just really good quality.

Currently running a pretty decent rig, but really bottle necking with the awful monitor i use.

Just to add, ideally i would like someone larger than i have now.

Any advice or links i could check out ?

AOC 240hz is £399 probably the pinnacle of TN panels at the minute. If it were me and i did not mind the slight bit of blur versus true ULMB i would want 240hz i think i am not sure if Destiny will support 240hz it does 144hz but serious Overwatch people will probably transition to 240hz. Even if they are not supporting 240hz G-Sync is just going to give you 144hz in the case of Destiny 2. The color is also apparantly better on the new TN panels.

There is a clear marked difference visable on Youtube videos of 60,120,144,240 compared and you clearly see all the images apart from the 240hz one fall apart when motion is introduced. It looked to me like the image was literally being chopped in half at 1000fps you can see everything but 240hz move in steps also. This i guess is why people are talking about Zenyatta Orbs at 240fps. And a GTX 1080 would be suitable for 1080p 240hz also incase you are wondering about what kind of power you would need.

I'm really struggling with this, trying to balance screen size (24 vs 27 inch), Refresh rate (144 vs 165 vs 240) and resolution (1080p vs 1440p) and then some other aspects like TN vs IPS, Freesync vs G-Sync etc (currently have AMD card).

Looking online it looks like you used to be able to get nice monitors a lot cheaper i.e. 27", 165hz, 1440p for under £400 but now £550+? I can afford anything I want but don't really want to be spending that sort of money.

Right now the AOC 240hz @ £350 is most appealing because it has high refresh (important for Quakeworld), cheap and freesync. However I currently have a 23" 120hz 1080p screen so it doesn't really feel like much of an upgrade in the way that a bigger and higher resolution screen would.

Thanks for the heads-up, I bought this (under £375 delivered). Seems OK so far, wasn't sure how I would get on with the higher res (smaller default font etc) but just about OK.
Seems a good balance of screen size, resolution, refresh rate and response time in this price bracket i.e. no major weaknesses in those areas. I also no longer need a weighty textbook sat underneath my monitor stand to prop it up :) - although the base of the stand does take up quite a lot of room.
