HI all! Recently basically ordered a whole new system from scratch... It is sexy as hell but I wondered if my monitor (Philips 221V2SB TFT LCD Full HD 22" DVI Monitor 1080p) Might be restricting my graphics ability?? Playing games on ultra and they still look pretty crappy. Pretty surprised by this! Here is the gumph I ordered recently:

If so - any advice on upgrading the monitor?

Thanks

I wouldnt say its restricting you but a bigger monitor may feel and look better, maybe get a 144hz Freesync monitor or higher res but what size do you fancy ?

Yes I think I mean ultrawide.

I am definitely think games will be a bit more pleasing on a bigger higher res monitor. However I am amateur at this stuff...

Yeah you could go for that one.....its not 144Hz though

you on a budget ?

Was hoping for under £200 but (as always) when you look at the options and whats available suddenly your budget doubles lol

I don't really know what's most important...refresh rate, res, response time etc.

144Hz, 1440p, 1ms response 27" would be great but maybe that's unrealistic for the new budget...(£300?!)

Oh and also how important freesync is for a rig like mine hoping to be playing resource hungry games on high settings?

Well I've not used Freesync or even G-Sync so cant really say much about those ...and at the moment it does seem a bit of a lottery when choosing a monitor within a given price range

Personally, I would look for a monitor which includes AMD's Freesync technology after all it is free ;) After experiencing G - Sync for myself (Nvidia's alternative) It's brilliant! None of those ugly screen tears, even in games where my FPS is sub 60 it still feels completely smooth which has enabled me to crank all that eye candy up and not worry, where as before V - Sync huge stutters even without V - Sync the drops from 100 to 70/60 for example I would notice the stutter but with G-Sync I don't seem to notice anything other than smooth gameplay.

Seems there are not any Freesync monitors which are 1440p and 144Hz which are not £400+...even with TN and not IPS :(

Yup, I was in the exact situation recently! I figured If I went 1440p I'd only want to upgrade my GPU to be completely happy therefore I stuck with 1080p with a 970 and pretty happy being able to max practically everything out with the addition of G-Sync.

There is the Acer 1440p 144hz Freesync which comes in at £390 although I'd feel hard done by as I remember many moons ago I saw it at £299.99 on offer :/ So not sure whats happening with the current price! BUT that seems to be the current cheapest option.

The PREDATOR XG270HUOMIDPX? Yeh that looks good to me and yes shame about the price! Think I have more of an idea of what I want so I am going to wait a bit and see if anything comes up on offer. Actually have The Witcher 3 looking pretty amazing now but still want an upgrade, mainly due to feeling a 22" screen is just a bit too small.
