Hey Folks,

I’m looking to replace my 2x 24” Acer QHD displays with a 49” Ultrawide at 5120x1440

This will work with both a Mac for work and a PC for personal /gaming

My pc is reasonable with a 2060 Super, 32gb ram, Ryzen 7 3700X

I am a fairly casual gamer - I enjoy fortnite, cod, dirt 5 and a few other titles and typically I can have the settings up pretty high

I’m trying to get an idea of how much I’d sacrifice game wise with this upgrade. I don’t mind turning settings down a bit (90% of the time using this display won’t be for gaming)

Could I run a centered window at 2560x1440 as a last resort for example, without having to change a bunch of system settings every time?

Thanks:)

Thanks, that sounds like a pretty pragmatic approach. I'd seen in another thread questions around if you can have a window right in the middle but couldn't find an answer!

Update on this in case anyone stumbles upon it.

I ended up going with the Samsung Odyssey G9 and I love it. I can see why the curve is a bit divisive, but personally I find it makes using the whole screen very natural feeling, even right up to the edges. In the past with the 2x24 setup I'd often not really use right up to the edge as it didn't feel comfortable. That's personal preference, of course.

I've had no issues with the resolution or picture location. The game titles I play have worked way better than I expected.

One thing I would say, make sure your device(s) can output at this res (aka 5k), and keep in mind, you will probably need to use the DP port to do so. For my Mac, I have a DP > USB-C adapter. It works just fine, full res @ 120hz. My PC already has DP so no issue there.

My productivity took a boost, that's for sure.

Oh and one other thing about the Samsung, the curve makes it rather front-heavy and if you want to reclaim desk space from the genuinely enormous desk stand, you'll need an arm capable of holding it. I went with an Ergotron.
