Hi all. I'm debating wether or not to treat myself to a new monitor. Ive had my LG 27" 1440p 144hz for a good 6 years now. The trouble is i built a whole new PC in march to game at 1440p and if i get a new monitor it's going to have to be 32" and 4k and OLED, otherwise its not really an upgrade and i worry if my AMD 9070XT is upto the job.

My rig is a 9800 X3d and 32GB of ram and 850W PSU so im ok there. Iam building my son a PC for christmas to game at 1440p and was going to get a 9070XT for that so now iam actually thinking do i give him my 9070XT and i get a nice shiny new monitor and a Nvidia 5080 to game at 4k?

I don't play online shooters or anything, im all single player and visuals so i recon a 4k OLED 32" would be great its just going to be an expensive option all in...

Get the monitor and see how your 9070XT copes would be my advice. You might find turning the odd setting down with minimal impact saves you some money. If it's not up to your requirements - upgrade then.

9070XT can handle 4K fine, maybe not 4K 240Hz in every game but 4K 120-165Hz usually quite comfortably and you can dial down the settings to max out the monitor if needed (desired)

Also seen you don't play online so agreed 4K 32" would be sweet spot, but there are better deals right now for the 27" 4K 240Hz monitors at the moment as well as the text been much sharper for general use on them.

If you have the budget for it, worth the upgrade imo.

I love my 42" LG C2 - theres better out there now thou ... at the time OLED monitors wernt that good. I can watch movies, game, internet etc on this thing. I dont have the biggest desk either and its fine. Typing is fine on it also unlike what you hear ... oh ya stock charts are great on it.

Yeah that is probably the most sensible option.

So would a 27" look sharper than a 32"? Just didn't think i should get the same size again.

for 32" I'd be aiming for higher than 1440p, wanting to keep it up the same PPI as 27" 1440p

I don't think there is a next resolution up that suitable though, until you go 32/34" 1440 UW,

If upgrading then I'd agree you'd want something larger. The jump from 27" to 32" is impressive, but so is the demand on the graphics card (1440p to 4K is over twice the number of pixels to drive).

Having said that, between the switch to OLED and the bump in pixel density, a 27" OLED would still be a very noticeable upgrade. If you have the opportunity to go and see some units running in a store I'd recommend that.

I went from a 1440p 32" VA panel to a 34" UW OLED as it was a nice compromise (not as demanding as 4K) and I love it. The pixel density isn't nearly as high as a 4K, but it was a big improvement over the previous monitor, and it's far less demanding than 4K, with the UW format being very immersive.

If you take everything into account, including cost of 4K and cost of driving 4K, I really think 34" U/W OLED 1440p is the best all-around option and I've had 32" 4K. I would make OLED your non-negotiable red line, and then work from there on size and resolution.

Oooof I’m also tempted with what comes Black Friday. My Alienware has an annoying purple vertices line now it’s like 5 years old but 244hz 1440p it’s done a great service. Am I right in thinking monitor prices are lower now… The equivalent is a lot less than the 1k mine cost.

Dell AW2725DF Looks extremely tempting at £500.
