Monitor upgrade: stick with 21:9 ultrawide or go with 4k?

Morning all,

I'm thinking about replacing my X34 ultrawide which is feeling long in the tooth these days. Do you think I will miss the format? Anyone else in the same boat who recently 'upgraded'? I don't do any productivty work and I generally watch media content on my 4K oled TV. Either way I definitely want an QD-OLED panel this time round.

Personally I'm not sure I would go back to a 16:9 format for gaming, ultrawide is just so damn good. But this is so subjective though. Can you do some gaming on your 4k TV and see if you like it?

I’ve had a 34” ultra wide (3440x1440) for 8+ years and likewise tempted to upgrade but not sure whether to stick with that format or go for a 34” 4k OLED ?

Pricing on the 16:9 monitors is generally better but I do like the ultrawide format for productivity work as an alternative to multiple monitors.

If anything I think I’d prefer a 38-40” OLED ultrawide as I love my current monitor but feel it would be better if had enough horizontal pixels for two 1920 windows next to each other.

Well you have 2 weeks to return a Dell monitor if you don't like it, so there's that (they do free courier collection).

As JediFragger has suggested, buy a 4K monitor and have a chance to test it out, if you're not happy return the device with an informed view

I shall be doing the same at some stage.

I went from a 34" super wide and back to a 32" 1440p. Thought I was mad for doing it but it's been great and I haven't missed the ultra wide.
