Hi guys, im about to buy a monitor with built in speakers, its 3d so its obviously 120Hz, its from my understanding that to get 3d i need to use a dual link DVI cable.. do i need another cable to connect from my tower to the monitor to hear sound such as a 3.5mm to 3.5mm jack cable, its such a newbish question but i have always had seperate speakers

thanks people

Yes, you need a 3.5mm cable but it's not worth it most of the time. Built in speakers are usually very poor and it's more worth using seperate speakers. What monitor are you planning to buy?

There are different 3D technologies, 3D doesn't automatically mean 120Hz.
The
LG D2542P
for example uses a 60Hz screen (think that even goes for all LG 3D monitors).

Yes, dual link DVI does not carry an audio signal so you would need some other means to carry the audio over to the monitor such as a 3.5mm jack or perhaps SPDIF. Stick to your regular speakers though, monitor speakers give an extremely poor quality sound - no exceptions.
120Hz monitors with a full HD resolution sometimes also have a displayport option, displayport can do both audio and 120Hz @ 1920x1080.
