Monitor won't go up to correct Resolution

Hi all , i have just built a new PC , I7 7700k with GTX 1080ti.

I am using my monitors from my last pc , one of which is a 1440p Dell U2711 monitor.

It works fine on all other pcs i own but on this new one it wont let me put the resolution up past 1600x1200 instead of 2560x1440.

I checked dell website and can't find a monitor driver for anything more recent than windows 8.

Any help appreciated , cheers !

This may be a really stupid question. Are you sure the graphics card drivers are installed and being used? Second try a different cable..

Hi mate , yeah graphics drivers are installed and running.

My card and monitor can use a few different cables , hdmi etc. What is the best cable from a gaming point of view?

The monitor and GPU communicate specs over the cable so I'd just try a different cable/port and make sure that isn't the issue.

Are you using a DisplayPort cable ?

Do not use an HDMI cable..

It's a dvi-d cable though a display port adapter until I get new cables.

Wonder if that's the reason

It's probably a single-link DVI-D cable, which doesn't support above 1920x1200 unless you drop below 60 Hz.

It all worked fine on my last pic that's the annoying thing.
My win 7 i7 2600k was no prob. It's since building a new win 10 pic.
