monitor wont switch on after fitted new mem

hello all, i have a problem which i hope you could help, just fitted 2x 256mb 168pin memory to my sistem (very old) computer. but when i switch the comp back on there nothing appear on the monitor not even windows logo, just blank. I then put the old memory back on again and same thing happens. i was wondering what could have cause this syptom. any help would be much appreciated. is my gfx gone or i nackarded the memory? :confused:

With the old memory in it doesn't boot?
 
Chip Density too high??? Usually it'll either beep like crazy or just register half the RAM that is actually in there.. could do this, though I've never encountered it myself...
 
similar incident i went threw and eventually found that because i put ram in wrong way (dont ask was tired) i had fried the pci slots and the onboard video....try taking out the graphics card, plugging your monitor into the onboard connection and try then. if not then try one stick of ram...both sticks....different combo's. i learnt the hard way when the poopie hits the fan diagonise it by pulling it apart. let us know how you get on mate
