Right, i plan on ordering a 30" TFT sometime in the next month or two, and all of the ones on the market as far as i can tell only have DVI connectors, now, if i was to buy the xbox VGA cable, and a VGA - DVI adapter.. will the console output in high defention or not?

My guess is not as the cable itself is the equivalent of VGA or S-Video whether there is a DVI adapter on it or not? Its quite gutting that the Gateway isnt available in the UK!

the 360 vga cable is capable of displaying 1080p so dont see why it shouldnt work via a dvi adaptor?

Nope I don't think it will display true HD if you know what I mean. I have that VGA cable and hooked it up to my 21" Display and the colours were kinda off not as vibrant as it is on my HDTV. The XBox detects the VGA is being used and provides you with a series of resoutions to run under... I think the highest a VGA could do is 1024x768.

Mine displays in at least 1280x1024 if I remember correctly, and I believe it displays in other widescreen resolutions.

But I havn't seen it in an age, so don't trust me. :(

If its the 360, then VGA lead + DVI adaptor will work fine for HD all the way up to 1080p if your TV supports it.

VGA is an analogue signal, DVI is digital. Some DVI's accept both analogue and digital (DVI-I) or just digital (DVI-D) but I presume a DVI input would be just digital AFAIK.

Plus, unless the monitor has a built in scaler, it will not scale the 1920 x 1080 up to the 2560 x 1600 res of the monitor, that res needs a dual DVI card.
