Hello folks,
Been searching round threads / google etc but can't seem to find a monitoring app that is reasonably priced (Under £2k) which will actively check that an application is running properly.
We have an application which reads SNMP data from printers etc, forwards the details to the vendor specific application.
But 2 weeks ago the service was still in task manager (so most monitoring applications would still report it as running) but had hung / wasn't actually doing anything.
So for 2 days no info back from the machines. Not good for a proactive service.
Have a friend that works for Zabbix, had a quick look at Nagios/Monitis (played with the demo from Monitis) but what I'm really looking for is:
This would be the only way of spotting if the executable is actually doing something rather than just running within task manager. (and maybe or maybe not actually reporting)
If we get updated if the application has not performed an SNMP walk/sent via HTTPS in the last 2 hours we know that it has stopped.
Apparently it was due to the server being overloaded - it's getting moved to a new VM box soon - But we need to be able to tell if it is still speaking without having to run manual checks every morning/evening.
(as generally over time these steps may get missed if busy etc)
Anyone used / looked into such a monitoring app?
Most seem to do everything under the sun, as long as it is sitting in task manager... Or is a website uptime tool of sorts.
