Monitoring Voltage and Temperature

I've just set up a PC - nothing too fancy Intel Dual Core, Geforce 8800 - nothing overclocked. All seemed well so I loaded Crysis. I let it choose the settings automatically so most graphics settings are on medium.

The only change I made was to switch from 1024x768 to 1280x1024 which is my monitor's natural resolution.

About 20-30mins in the computer blue screened.

I guess this could be

Temp got too high
Voltage got to low
Just a game bug

Is there any way of monitoring the votages and temperatures. I have the Abit EQ utility but as far as I can tell this only shows instaneous values so I can't use it to see what was happening when it crashed.

Appreciate any advice.

Cheers,

Nigel

Thanks for the advice.

GPU-Z looks like it will be useful.

But Real Temp is a problem - I've downloaded the latest version but when I run it it just says 'Driver not found on the Network'. I've gone back to the website but it doesn't seem to cover installation or problems.

Any ideas?

Cheers,

Nigel

Everest will tell you nearly everything about your sysetm, from Volts to temperature to overclocking settings :)

I've just left GPU-Z running whilst I tried Crysis.

Sure enough it died on me.

The GPU-Z log shows

Over a period of 9 minutes

GPU Temp - Rose from 53 to 70 degC
GPU Temp - Rose from 44.5 to 61.5 degC
PCB Temp - Rose from 42/5 to 57.8 degC

Fan speed stays constant at 60%

Don't know why it reports two GPU Temps - no explanation given.

Obviously, I can see the temperature has risen but I would expect that. What I don't know is whether the end temps are okay or not.

If they were a problem I would have expected the fan to step up.

Appreciate any advice.

Cheers,

Nigel

Yep, beginning to think it is the CPU or RAM.

I found something strange in the BIOS. I bought the kit 2nd hand from a member here and I'm sure he siad that it had never been overclocked (but I may be mistaken).

Anyway, looking at the BIOS I notice that in 'SoftMenu' the CPU is set to default - 2666(333) - it's an Intel E6750. But this sets the External clock to 340 (not 333) resulting in a CPU speed of 2720 not 2666. Also because the RAM is set to 1:1 it sets the RAM speed to 816 rather than 800.

Now this is only a small overclock but I'm a bit puzzled why it is there at all because it is getting them from the CPU Default not user defined.

If I want to put them back to 333, with CPU at 2666 and memory at 800 I have to do this as a 'User Defined' setting.

Any idea why it would do this? It's like the Motherboard is overclocking by default - the MoBo is an abit IP35 (Off Limits).

Cheers,

Nigel
