Monitors keep flashing due to static electricity - any chance of damage?

I got a fabric chair, and noticed a static shock sound almost always when I stand up off it. I've always used leather or plastic chairs, so this is new to me. Every now and then, my monitors will turn on and off again. One's a cheap 1440p 144Hz IPS, and the other's a 1080p 60Hz VA, both on vesa arms. I wouldn't be surprised if they cheaped out on some wiring, but would something expensive like a Samsung ultrawide be wired better to resist shocks?

I've read you can avoid static buildup through a humidifier, not wearing trousers, or not wearing footwear when sitting down. Assuming I can't do any of those, am I at risk of damaging my monitors? I can live with them turning off, but don't want to shorten their lifespans, especially the IPS.

I have had a fabric chair now for a few years and I've never experienced any issues with static. Room is carpeted, I tend to wear shorts in the house and slippers in the winter, just socks when its warmer. My Monitor is a BenqXL2730z, getting on a bit now but was a nice monitor in its day so maybe the cheaper monitors is the issue

No weird adapters or anything on the monitors? I had some really bad issues once (extremely similar to your experience) and figured out that whoever had owned the monitor before had mucked around with their own adapters and it had no working earth. Swapping over to a fresh earthed cable fixed the issue.

DVI to HDMI cable for the VA, and DP to mini DP cable, and back to DP dongle for the IPS. The only weird adapters I can think of. I'll use an old DVI adapter that came with an Nvidia card, and a HDMI cable. As for the mini DP, I no longer have a laptop that uses it. Newer ones use USB-C anyway.

The floor is also carpeted and I wear slippers

Sorry, I was talking about the mains power cable rather than video.

Apart from a surge protected power strip, my power is pretty fine.

As a final note, I changed the DP cable, and unplugged the DVI one. I've had fewer shocks and no flashes so far, although I only did this yesterday. So I suspect it was the wiring.

I get this with mine. Its worse in winter when the air is dry and less so in summer when humidity rises.

It also started when I had my fabric noble chair. Still haven't found out how to stop it. I get shocks if I touch anything metal after getting up off the seat!
