Monitors Keep Turning Off!?

I have tried another graphics card so that cant be faulty.

It started happening last night after i got a virus .... 2 irritating pieces software: Antimalware (or something), which i managed to get rid of and Security Suite.

The Security Suite kept popping up at startup and blue screening my pc
When i tried to get rid of it in Safe mode, after a few minutes my screens would turn off  At the time i just assumed it was due to this virus.

The problem is... I got fed up trying to remove the virus so decided just to reinstall windows, but the screen turns off just as its loading the setup bit

It also happened when i tried to use an Acronis Partition Boot CD (midway through re-partitioning) and really strange... in the BIOS.

When it turns off i cannot get it back without turning off and rebooting :(

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

Cheers

Sounds obvious but ensure the monitor cable is screwed in/secure and if nesseary try a different cable. It's suprising the havoc an insecure cable can cause, my xp machines monitor will sometimes not come back on without a reboot after this type of unintended 'hot swapping'.

Also ensure any screws on the monitors or graphics cards ports are nipped up. My old monitors dvi port screws somehow work themselves lose periodicly, resulting in the cable pins not making full contact.

You could also remove the BIOS battery for 5 mins to ensure you get a full low level reset.

Thanks,

I had already tried removing the bios battery, no change im afraid. Cables look secure, tried a different one anyway, just strange how its doing it on 2 monitors.

Could i have a virus in the bios or something? Never seen anything like this. The monitors turn of after around 2-3 minutes

Hmm, i dont thinks it just the monitor turning off as the keyboard is disabled too. Was changing some settings in the bios and all i had to do was to press F10 and Enter, but when i rebooted it hadn't changed. Beginning to think my motherboard is knackered..... but why bother turning on at all :(

I was just considering updating the bios, but i have no idea if it will have time to complete :/

Updated it anyway, finished .... but problem still remains :(

Can a virus damage hardware, im just a tad confused why this happened when i got a virus/spyware ?

You sure the monitor switches off and not just the signal to it?

If so a long shot perhaps, but could your PSU be faulty? You comfortable that it is man enough and not too old for the task?

Did wonder if it could be the psu - its a 2 year old Corsair TX750, i dont have another one i can try :(

I've been able to get some more time out of it though, by removing all cards except video and some memory playing around with the memory now.

Got this problem again, this time caused by uninstalling graphics drivers

Rebooted, now it won't give me enough time to reinstall new ones :(

Could it be the motherboard? Or it's as if it the motherboard might not be grounded properly to the case? Or a hardware attached to the motherboard might be malfunctioning?

Try to start your computer with each peice of equipment so you can get a good idea what might be causing it.

I think I've found the cause, although I don't know why its only causing a problem now.

I just came across a setting in the bios, under PCI-E Settings called 'GPP Slots Power Limit'.

The mobo manual doesn't say what it does, but im kind of assuming that its how many watts each PCI-E slot is limited to .... and if thats the case, then since if had this card ....its been limited to 25w

Anyone know if this is in fact what this GPP option does and if so, how much should i set it for my 4870x2? I currently have it set to 100w

Cheers
