Monitors... shouldn't it be displays?

Just pondering on this. Where monitors not the big square chuncky jobbies we used to sit in front of? Should the section not now be referred to as Displays?

Hehe, I used to have a 21" NEC and it was massive and damn heavy. Fantastic screen/picture quality tho!

maybe but then that could start to incorporate anything from TV's, digital signage, projected displays, large screens....any display or any sort really. By "monitors" we're talking only about desktop PC monitors in this section of the forum, whether thats CRT, LCD or any other type like OLED

Those old massive ones you talk about were displays too. Monitor has multiple meanings, it's more about the context than the specific item itself.

Speakers and headphones/earphones are also referred to as monitors depending on what their intended usage is.
