Monkey (TV series) Is Back!

An ambitious remake of Japan's most successful television drama Saiyuki (Monkey) is causing a stir across Asia.

The new version of the 1978 drama broke ratings records last month with one in three Japanese viewers tuning in.

Due to be broadcast here later this year.

Just been reading that, looks like it could be good.

Went onto the Monkey website and didn't realise that the girl who played Tripitaka died at the age of 27

they say it's the 1st remake since the original series.

not True

i worked (CG Effects & Animation) on a TV movie remake of it a few years ago for the Hallmark channel.

It was called The Lost Empire

Loosely based on the story from classical Chinese Literature "Journey to the West".

Surprisingly and shockingly awful.

Definitely one for the ultimate DVD collection.

One of the ITV channels is showing the original series at the moment. ITV3 or 4 i think.
