You do realise there are many versions of Christianity and what you normally think of as a Monk is a very Occidental tradition. Also go back to 11th/12th Century and the Knights Templer and Knights Hospitaller were martial monastic orders. In the high medieval Professors, Doctors and Lecturers at Oxford and Cambridge if they weren't already a member of ecclisastic orders had to take Lay orders so were theoretically monks as well (and there are plenty of reports from city constaples arresting them for fighting and drinking)
That's sort of the point though, isn't it?
Not content with a "my god's better than your false gods" with the non-Abrahamic religions, nor even the "it's more or less the same god but you're doing it totally wrong" with Judaism and Islam, these monks have to have a punch-up about who's slightly different way of worshipping the same invisible friend is the correct one.
You've gotta laugh, really...
