Okay, so I've had a very large thread about mould in my front bedroom. Long story cut short, ciga are removing the insulation.
The render on the front elevation has a fair few cracks and the paint has blistered, so it would either involve stripping the paint, fixing the cracks, then painting or obviously re-render.
After seeing how a rendered wall requires maintenance and the costs of doing so, if I re-render I would like to have minimal maintenance in future.
I've been recommended monocouche render by a plasterer, specifically "parex" with a "Matie backing coat".
His price is really good, £1650 for his labour and i have to supply materials and possibly a tower.
Main questions are:
1. Is this suitable for the type of house? It's a mid terraced ex council with cavity construction from the 1960's.
2. Will this end up covering the air bricks?
3. Will this end up needing painting in future anyway?
4. If it stains will it jet wash off?
5. If I need to drill in to it, do I use normal masonry bits and is it likely to crack?
6. Likewise, if I have a hole am I limited to filling it with silicone? Spoiling the look of the render.
I would personally like to go sand and cement again because it is like for like, just with a smooth finish but it ends up costing more by the time you pay someone to paint it.
