Monos - subtitles on Netflix?

Having wanted to watch this since it came out I was really happy to see it come to Netflix. However I sat down to watch it yesterday and it appears they only have subtitles with audio description (for hard-of-hearing). So you get all the "bells chime in the distance" and "wind whistles" etc. which I don't want!

The only options I get on my Apple TV, iPad or Android phone are Subtitles; Off / Spanish SDH / English SDH. Both options there give you the audio description. I've checked other foreign language titles and they all have Subtitles = English (no SDH) which is correct.

Can anyone else check for me? What's going on?

I actually spent 30mins on live chat to Netflix ( :p ) and after going through all the options she just told me to report the issue which I've done :o

On shows that aren't Netflix "Originals" you only get the subtitles that the distributor supplies them with. Quite often distributors only bother with the SDH subs as they are a requirement for the US whereas non-SDH are not.

It had a pretty wide UK theatrical release (for an arthouse title). There's no way that would have happened without "normal" English subtitles. I think Netflix have messed up somewhere. They would have been given all variations/localisations..

Can anyone confirm they're seeing the same thing please?

First world problems if ever I've seen! Great film btw!
I'm not sure it's really first world problems, lol. Like I say, I think Netflix have buggered up somewhere.

It's pretty normal that audio description and subtitles are combined. Not saying it's the right way to do things but it's not really bothered me. I'll probably notice it now and be annoyed. :D

I take it back. Just checked a few different things.

BBC iPlayer occasionally has something like [phone rings].
Monos only has English CC subtitles
Money Heist (Spanish audio) has English Subtitles and English CC.

The English CC has the sound descriptions on it. English Subtitles does not.

HTH

Yeah, CC/audio description is a totally different kettle of fish. I presume you tried Monos on Netflix? It's available elsewhere but I don't want to pay £3 to rent it where it should be available in the correct form on Netflix.

If you feel like spending another 3mins on it for me, do this and hopefully we can get it to the top of their queue :p

I'm so happy someone else is annoyed with this problem. I too was eager to watch Monos.... the soundtrack has been on my playlist for the last year. I put the film on last night to see audio descriptions on screen. Gutted. Spent 30 minutes trying to get rid. I couldn't watch the film because of it. Sort it out Netflix....please

Welcome to the forums. Can you do as I did above to flag the problem to Netflix? :)
