Hi guys and gals. Im new to oc forums and this is my first post.
I have been a oc customer for a while now on two seperate accounts over a few years and just never bothered joining the forums but now i have so hi!. I normally just read posts so i guess thats why i never joined... i know lazy.

This is my close future setup but this post is for also any hardware details or problems you have found out about any of it that i would like to know of.
I have already got:

asus rampage iii extreme motherboard
a sapphire hd5970
23 inch hd monitor
A haf 932 cooler master full tower case
i7 980x extreme cpu
Koolance exos2.5 external water cooling system with 360 cpu block and vidar597 cooling block for hd5970(which i had to order from the states which was NOT CHEAP)

And stuff im going to get:
Corsair Dominator GT PC3-16000(2000) CMG6GX3M3A2000C8 - 6GB (3x2GB) maybe make it 12gb... lol
The new veloci raptor 450 gb sata hard drive(when western digital move there butts and bring em out)

I already have a average gaming pc atm but its time for a upgrade as you can see. Im not in rush at all so im going to wait about 1 more month for the new veloci raptor to come out. Im also not bothering with crossfire for money resons.
Anyway i have two questions for you guys and gals. Do you think this is a good setup? And 2 - Does anyone know when the new velociraptors are getting released? I have searched for news everywhere but cant get a good estimate on a date. I have pre order'd mine through over clockers already but i found out that it was oem after i order'd(im not really a oem type) and i normally prefer retail gear even for the little extra cash. So what are your thoughts? Have you had any hardware problems with any of this gear?

Thanks

I was told that ssd's are not worth getting at the moment and a veloci raptor is better in the long run and more reliable. If not a veloci raptor what other hard disk could you recommend for gaming? I like the idea of ssd but i mean i heard they are still not as good as other hard disks due to not lasting in the long run from what i have heard. Plus im only gaming and browsing on the machine, nothing else. Are veloci raptors really that loud?

You know i think im just gonna get 2 new 450 gb veloci raptors when they come out and set them up in raid 0. Cant loose doing this really and performance will be bang on the money.

Welcome. :D

What if you drop he 980x raptor and the 5970 and get 2 5870 with full cover waterblocks i7 920 @ £170 and c300 120gb for an ssd? and also a 1tb wd from music ect...? but if youve already orderd the gpu block it doesnt matter its still a top noch bulid.

I already got everything apart from the memory and the hard drives... I think im just going to go for two 450gb velociraptors. a lot Cheaper then a ssd of the same size, about £450 max.

ok ok lol SO i have been reading for the last two hours on ssd's and am straying away from the raptors towards the ssd Intel X25-M Mainstream 160Gb. Is the best ssd for gaming at my budget of £400? Or would you suggest some other ssd for gaming? I dont use any other media or anything else just games on my new system so 160gb is fine as i normally have about 3 games installed at once. So how bout it? Know a better ssd for gaming then the one i have picked? Forgive me im still semi-newb lol

i was looking into raid0 for these two ssd's but i was told that there isnt much difference in read speeds when you combine the two as they are fast enough on there own. But they are still the nearly the same price if you bought just one 160gb verson from intel so i guess it is worth it... thanks for info might buy two now lol

im just going to raid 2 x 80gb intel's. I know it might make them crapper over time but i upgrade most hardware every 2 years so there will be better ssd'd then. Are the 80gb intels trim, also i thought you cant raid trim?

ok so help me out here... im a bit of a newb on pc compared to most of the people on this forum. Is trim a software problem or hardware? i have got the asus rampage iii extreme motherboard and am planing to get 2 80gb intel x25 m ssd drives. Will this cover trim or will i need to buy something else for trim support?

im only intrested in ssd now. my new build is super quite, the only noise possible is from my haf932 cooler master case as any noisey hardware is now being watercooled. So i want to keep it quite, just trying to figure out how to raid0 two intel 80gb x25-m without lack of performance without trim.

no 160gb wouldnt be enough for most people but i only install 2 or 3 games maxmium at a time. When im done and have completed the game i normally uninstall it and add another. Im not one of these online gamers with a arsenal of games on there pc and i normally only play hd single players. Games take me a long time to complete aswel.

What? 160GB will be more than sufficient for W7 and loads of games.

W7 = 15gb max

Games on average now are about 8-11GB (some bigger ones sure but also smaller ones) that gives you just over 10 of the newer (larger) games installed. Who has more than that installed, seriously? I could barely name 10 games let alone own them and have them installed and if you do have others that are just for singleplayer, that's what the Samsung F3 1TB is for!

Malkavian - if you end up wanting TRIM then just go the the 160GB Intel but I would still include a Samsung F3 or WD Caviar Black 1TB for pure storage. That is what's takes up most space, films + music. Gamers even for the most hardcore are probably more similar to you only have a few games installed that they session a lot.

Thanks for advice wu-tang. Im only geting two 80gb intels as i have another pc just for music, films and media etc etc. This beast im making is purely for games. When i build a new pc and when each month passes by i put some money to the side for a upgrade that i do every two years. Normally allows me to get some of the best hardware when im due a upgrade. Im not going to get a hdd though just going to get the two intels
