Couldn't find a thread for it so decided to make one (Mods please forgive me if not allowed)

The pc beta now available on Steam I had a chance to try it out this morning and was very pleasantly surprised with the FPS that I was getting.

80-105 during opening cutscene
80-95 during first fight
Maxed settings (As much as I could at least)
No FSR/Upscaling
1440P

Given that a friend of mine said that the console performance was terrible even on performance mode struggling to maintain 60FPS, I was a little worried but now after actually trying it I'm even more hype about the final release in February.

Hoping to find some other OCUK hunters maybe! I've been a monster hunter franchise fan since the Freedom Unite days on PSP, absolutely loved World, Rise was OK imo.

They'll be adding cross play as well with Wilds, really looking forward to it. The MH community has always had a really active community, so we should be in for some fun times.

Still not sure about your character and the palicos having actual dialogue though, I kinda liked being these silent hunter who just nodded and grunted at everything to get my point across...

Just did first mission, performance for me was roughly 120fps at 4K with DLSS Quality and frame gen active (4090 + 7800X3D), I dunno maybe seems a bit low for how game looks

In terms of gameplay though I really enjoyed it, first time playing using mouse and keyboard rather then controller, went with my usual hammer and I felt sorry for that poor little monster I completely wrecked his day
I think that's not so bad fps considering you're at 4K?

No idea to be honest what kind of fps do you get without any framegen?

MH World is the best in the business but MH Rise has updated QOL changes from world but its more casual friendly imho, very solid game and might be the easiest to get into but for the purist experience World is the way to go, probably dirt cheap now too.
Try the cheapest maybe to see if you enjoy the gameplay loop?
Or you could just wait.
Worth mentioning the vast modding support for world though.

Am really looking forward to what the modding community come up with for wilds!

Bought the digital deluxe monster edition which comes with the icebourn expansion and some cosmetic dlc for £14 which I thought was quite cheap. Downloading now so probably give it a quick go tonight.
have fun! One thing that I would definitely say as a new player is to just stick at it if you feel a bit discouraged at the start. Monster Hunter games have a really steep learning curve and each weapon handles significantly different from the each other. One thing Monster Hunter has never really done well at least in my opinion is easing new players into the mechanics of weapons very well and it can seem quite daunting and there is a lot to learn but I promise you when you actually get it, There really is no other substitute for Monster Hunter.

Kinda funny that it only reached the score Capcom considers "good". I don't understand gaming benchmark scoring.
I think it bases the "good/excellent" Stuff off of the total score which as far as I can tell is based off of true fps as opposed to frame generated.

how is everyone getting on! Post your hunters!!

I'll be honest I've only run into one graphical glitch which occurred during the intro where the desert textures were popping out of the sand. But apart from that I haven't really had any other issues. Performance has been ok and quite in line with what I got from the benchmark so it's been okay for me so far. Admittedly though I am still very early in the game as I'm waiting for some of my friends to come on line tonight to play together.

Hopefully though Capcom get a patch out soon to fix issues that people seem to be reporting.

Very poor textures. Wonder if he has the 4K texture pack installed ? Just finished watching the Digital Foundry PC review .... not good ; will give the game a crack later this evening, but try not to go beyond 2 hrs so I reserve the right to refund if performance is terrible.
Yeah I didn't have the texture pack installed I didn't even know there was one until later on. :notlikethis:

I did manage to find some series of settings which boosted my performance.. And when I say that I just mean made it more consistent and at least in my case completely ridded me of some of the stuttering I was experiencing and seems to have eliminated graphical glitches at least for me.

suggested settings to turn down more if need be:

Shadow Quality
Shadow Distance
Distant Shadow Quality
Contact Shadows
Volumetric Fog
Mesh quality (There's very little difference between high and highest)

Yes frame gen is on, But if I'm being completely honest I don't see any really noticeable image quality issues with it turned on vs it being turned off during actual gameplay. But the smoothness of the gameplay is definitely noticeable and any minor visual artefacts which I haven't really noticed yet when I'm playing are worth putting up with for the better experience. Obviously I'd prefer to run it without but I think we all know that this game isn't exactly screaming optimisation in it's current state.

But as noted by DF in their tech analysis of the PC version I definitely wouldn't run frame gen if your base fps is below 60 at whatever settings you're playing at. I really do hope that some optimization patches are in the pipeline and get to us sooner rather than later.

Also I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same issues in the desert/Grasslands area where sometimes the lighting is massively overexposed during daytime? And is anyone else playing in HDR? There are moments where I think it looks really nice and then others, where it looks God awful...

It has it's moments, im still early the story, The fight with lightning what's its face was very pretty, But yes I agree that generally speaking world looked better and considering how taxing Wilds is on pretty much any system at the moment there's really no excuse for it. Thankfully I'm fortunate enough to have it running out pretty much 120 FPS and it still looks as close to as good as it can. But the gameplay is thankfully still as fun as world it's nice to definitely have the feeling back after the floatiness of what I experienced playing rise which I wasn't really a fan of.

They're supposed to have been some update where they've optimised some of the PC stuff. I don't know if they've already implemented it or if it's coming later on this month, but I'll probably be hopping on to check it out. But I haven't played it in ages either.
