Watching a movie yesterday and in the dark scenes there was a good 6" of large horizontal bands across the top of the screen, very noticeable. The TV was purchased 25th May, so not that old and not had many hours of use. I wasn't made aware when buying an OLED they came with these potential issues, I would have considered not going OLED otherwise.

What can I do at this point? Was bought from Richer sounds.

Edit: Spoke to RS and they said bring the TV to them and they will give me a new one.

Is this issue likely to be a common thing or am I unlucky?

That's same sort of banding Plasma screens do too, OLEDS suffer from it too and well known with this type of emissive screen. Either swap it with a QLED FALD or a Sony FALD if this type of thing annoys you. One of the many reasons why I didn't go OLED after decades of Plasma screens.

Check out the Sony XF90 they are good and and the recent update has made them great again with Oreo after the update about a month ago messed up the brightness of the UI. If banding annoys you just wait till you get retention and burn in which will happen in time too as it did with all my plasma screens from Pioneer to Panasonic. Get a FALD LCD for now and wait it out till MicroLED becomes common place as I have done and went with the 75" XF90 that I'm very happy with.

RS are good just explain to them that you are not happy with the OLED banding issues that you were not aware of and ask them to replace it with a QLED FALD or a Sony FALD. You also still have the right to return and ask for a full refund remember but you will not have to do that with RS as they are great and will not want to loose you as a customer and making sure you are happy with your purchase.

Thanks, any recommendations for FALD around £1500? Something like the Sony KD65XF9005?
