I have sooooo many cookery books which I haven't even looked at let alone used any recipes from, so this year have decided to try to bake a new thing (will probably be a dessert of some sort) every month - or maybe more often if I can.

I will be updating this thread and a dedicated album on FB with the picture in the recipe book (what its supposed to look like :p) and what it actually looks like.

Feel free to join in if you wish! :p

This sounds like fun. Post up the recipe a few days in advance and we can all have a bash and see who's the best (and more importantly, who's the worst!).

Baked this the other day - Mojhito Genoise Cake

Recipe can be found here: http://www.lovefood.com/guide/recipes/11455/lorraine-pascales-mojito-genoise

Heres what it should have looked like:

And here's what it looked like:

A little more 'rustic' than intended, but tasted very nice :)

Looks tasty :)

And also this is a great idea, I attempt to try new recipes regularly but it's a bit 'here and there' but I do have a lot of cookery books. I got the Hairy Bikers Pie cookbook for christmas, tried a pear and chocolate recipe last week and it tasted really nice.

So far this week I've done chocolate and vanilla Mille Feuille and a Roast Gammon Joint with roast veg (onions, shallots, potatoes, carrots) that was lovely. I forgot to get a pic of the gammon joint with the cloves and stuff in :(

I'm going to try and do a recipe a week from one of my cookbooks that I've just got - I'm a student so my main meals are all the usual Meatballs, Spag Bol, Curries etc so I want to branch out into some other things. The 3 cookbooks I have are Hughs Veg, Jamies Great Britain & 101 One Pot Dishes so going to try two of those this week I think :)

Shall pop the results in here I suspect..

An economical idea might be to shuffle the recipes so common ingredients can be shared between recipes

Tasted delicious!!! Didn't do exactly the same topping (chocolate caraque) as ran out of time :( and the springform tin I had was wider so my cakes isn't as thick as the original picture, but to be honest its so rich and sweet - you don't need much more than I made!

That cake looks well nice BB.

As you said it is a bit thinner than the original. I'd have made it bigger but then I can be a greedy sod. :D

February - Fruit Cake

Well firstly I used the only springform tin that I had which was too big.

Secondly I didn't do the icing.

And thirdly I swapped some of the fruit :D so didn't entirely following the recipe exactly but it still tasted great ;)

:/ oh dear they appear to be getting worse! lol forgot to grease the tin and should've used more icing sugar in the icing as it ended up as a passionfruit drizzle cake in the end! :p Still it all went though ;)

Also made some 'Blondies' :)

Never made Brownies before (for the shame! :p) partly because I don't like dark chocolate so obviously I jumped at the chance when I heard about Blondies :D there was some white chocolate left over too... what a shame!

Think I should have been braver and taken them out at 20mins... next time! They ARE delicious though!!!

As you use 4 egg yolks with this I decided to make use of the leftover whites and make a 'by-product' dessert of pavalova :o

Yes I could have used fresh fruits, but this wasn't the dessert that was the main focus!
