im coming up 16 in may and i have saved some money towards a moped but the thing is, can i buy the moped before im 16 and have it all in my name, log book, insurance ect... but not ride it just keep it in my garage till i get my cbt passed? because im probaly gonna strip it and re-build it just for for peace of mind that its all ok.
btw its not gonna be a twist and go because i think they are rubbish it will probaly be like a supermoto style bike :D
any help will be appreciateed :)

How much are you spending? wouldnt it be better to save money, wait until your 17 and buy a car, or if your in to biking, buy a better bike?

Don't get a moped.

They don't offer anything, buses are better (and I HATE buses).

Wait until you're 17 and get a bike or car :)

However, if you must get one, never remove the frigging exhaust.

You can buy before 16, but can't insure etc before hand.

sorry just noticed and realised theres a bike sub forum if a mod or someone could move it for me that would be appreciateed

ive got around 1000 at most to spend on it but i have most of the gear for riding it(thank god)
i do need it as after school it takes me nearly an hour to get me to my part time job due to the bus going though all the estates and villages around were i live

im not realy that botherd about my car due to its allready in progresss, me and my dad have been restring a mini for a while now for when i passed my test whitch i have been putting money too aswell. and the money for the bike has been a bit i put away every month from everytime i get paid

Although I'm 26, I took out insurance on my bike before I'd passed my CBT so that my dad could ride it home for me. The insurer said that I had a month to pass my CBT or the policy would be cancelled. When I passed, I just had to ring up and give them the details.

Buy something that you are likely to get your money back on when you come to resell. Also don't be tempted to spend a fortune modifying it.
That year from 16-17 will go very quickly and you will be sure to want to upgrade to a 125cc/bigger bike/car as soon as you can. Anything you spend that you won't get back will be wasted money.

With a £1000 if you buy well you probably won't need to strip and rebuild it - unless you really know what you're doing - you are just as likely to introduce new problems and spend money unecessarily. Of course if anything does go wrong - 50cc bikes are nice and simple, it's well worth doing the work yourself if you are mechanically minded.

I'm mechanicaly minded so that's no problem , it was just so I knew it was all ok because its my safety
I won't tune it at all due to as you say I don't want to spend money on it , I want to get a 125 at 17
but if I can fiddle with it to get the best out of it I will :D
