Just put my first two threads on the MM and obviously intend to do proof of postage, and RMSD on items I sell that are of high value...

Something just came into my mind for some reason... what would you do, if an item gets lost in the post that you've sold.
You've obviously got proof of postage, so you know you've sent the item. But the buyer says it never turns up.

Do you give a full refund? (Giving the chance that the buyer now has the item)
Split the cash between you? (You posted it, so it’s not your fault... yet they may have genuinely lost the item in the post)
Take the money and run?

Maybe some of you have been in this problem before (either on the MM or ebay, or something else), just interested in what you would do... or indeed have done.

Of course, with recorded delivery you know if its arrived or not, but with first class and other cheap postage options... you never know do you?

If knowing or being able to track the parcel is worrying you, why are you considering just using

'other cheap postage options'

for peace of mind, I would always go with recorded delivery or use a courier, at least you know for a fact where it is, and get POD's etc :)

i fully intend on doing recorded delivery and such... just wondering what people have done/would do if they were in such a situation...

i very seriously doubt anything will get lost, sorry... my mind works in mysterious ways sometimes :o

I have on one occasion had a small item sent my 1st class post, without even a proof of postage, to someone buying it through Amazon payments, go missing. I gave them a refund because I was scared, basically, but later made a compensation claim to the post office, and, after taking a while, they sent me a cheque for £18. So things might not be so horrible as you think if something goes missing!
