Maybe £350 would be OK.
The 6870 has more Tessellation horsepower than a GTX 480???
I guess the important bit now is, what die size did they need to accomplish it.
Edit:
Early reports from Charlie indicated very slightly bigger than GF104 (about 380mm2) but he wasn't absolutely certain on that.
If that is true, then Nv is in HUGE trouble now...

I wonder what a stock & overclocked 480 with latest drivers get's at that res in comparison?

Well if they are legit, and if the 6870 can beat a clocked 480 without the huge TDP, then I'm sold.
I doubt even a full 512 shader 480 can compete on performance, and the TDP of a 512 version previewed was simply insane... so I doubt we will see it for a while.
