Hi I posted on here a few days ago about my car failing its MOT

"The main thing it has failed on said

"Exhaust system has a major leak of exhaust gases"

Just wondering what this means exactly and whether anyone has idea how much it will set me back to repair. Its a 1.6 Ford Focus."

So I took it to High Q today and they had a look and said that it wasnt the exhaust but where the exhaust connects to the engine, im sure he said mansometing!!

So my next question is what is the mansomething!! and is this going to be expensive!! He told me that he doesnt have the right equipment to get to the part thats broken so to take it to the Ford Garage which I have now done, they have said that they will look at it and give me a quote but I just wondered if someone had any ideas before I go back?

Many Thanks

Manifold gasket is shot on my Mondeo. Any idea what I should pay to have it replaced?

Not sure which gasket exactly but could it be between the block and manifold? Or more likely exhaust and manifold?

It could be either... I've never worked on the Mondeo engines but if it is the manifold - engine gasket it is potentially a big piece of work (depending on engine layout).

The manifold-downpipe gasket is the usual culprit when the exhaust starts blowing in that region. This should be a fairly quick fix assuming the garage doesn't shear any bolts.

Have spoken to the bloke at the ford garage he said that the manifold is cracked and he can fix it for £242.50 which includes labour and vat, does this sound ok?

I can't remember what car it was :o Was this a genuine ford garage you took it to? If you need the car ASAP, then this is probably the easiest answer. It isn't a truly horrible price all included for a stealership.

ford focus, yeah i went to the tc harrisons ford dealership, he said that the manifold was cracked and needed replacing, he had tried to ring around for the part but no-where had one so I was going to have to have a ford manifold put in, and he only had one left in stock so he needed an answer!!

my guess is that, that is what he tells everyone who goes in! but seeing as i had a screaming one month old baby in my ear the easy option was to say yes and get it out the way!! that and a vey generous older brother with a credit card!

he has also offered to fix my lights which were apparently "the wrong colour" for £10!! that i know is a rip off!!
