I went to D&A today about contact lenses, to find that they don't do contact lenses that would properly correct my astigmatism other than rigid ones to buy at £220 a pair.

The issue is that my cylinder measurement is -2.75 in one eye and the usual limit for soft contact lenses is -2.25.

Looking online, I've found a monthly soft contact lens range that's supposed to go up to -3.75 - Coopervision do a couple of "extended range" toric soft contact lenses.

Searching on Google unsurprisingly returns pages of shopping websites and no information.

Does anyone here use them, know anything about them or know of any other disposable contact lens range that would work with my level of astigmatism?

I have an astigmatism - I wear Bausch and Lomb contact lenses. Nowhere near your prescription, but might be worth checking out to see if they do. :)

I wear RGP's due to the strength of my prescription and although the initial cost is quite high I think they're worth it when you consider what you pay for a good pair of glasses. I must have my pair for nearly 6 years now and they are still like new. All in one solution from Boots is only £4.99 and it lasts a couple of months. RGP's take a bit of getting used to but after a few weeks you forget you're wearing them.

Must have changed allot in the last 15 years then cause they hurt like hell when I had them.

I keep thinking about trying contact lenses again, especially now bars arent smokey and my hayfever isnt as bad as it used to be as a kid.

I have astigmatism as well although mild and my soft contact lens prescription covers it. I'll have a look to see what my prescription is.

When I first heard I had astigmatism I thought I had six months to live.

I had astigmatism but it wasn't huge but my soft contact lenses didn't correct it. Never knew you could get contacts that did! Thought it was only glasses that could! amazing! Do you not get on with non soft contacts? I had some gas permeable ones which I could leave in for a month and they were brilliant.

I had a weird thing, I tried contacts and were hurting so the opticians did some more checks and apparently one of my eyes is too rugby ball shaped...so normal contacts rub on them as they dont sit right. never bothered to check if there was a way round it, tbh after wearing glasses for 20+ years, I'm not sure I could deal with losing them!
