I have a BT hub 3 with 4 Ethernet sockets. I need more sockets to add some devices.

What is the best way to add more hardwired Ethernet connections to my router?

What is your budget? You could really future proof by buying a 24 port gigabit one with passive cooling. I think TP link do a model for around £70-80.

There are als plenty of bargains to be had on an auction site for ex corporate switches, 16 ports should be a touch cheaper than 24's.

What is the POS-PD port for on this netgear switch?

Is it the port that goes to the router?

I believe that in fact says PoE-PD, which refers to Power over Ethernet, AKA "Powered Devices" functionality. Devices are increasingly making use of this technology so that they can be installed in places that don't have mains electricity present. Switches, wireless access points and IP cameras are the ones you'll probably run in to most. If you don't use anything else that requires or pushes out PoE, I'd ignore it and treat it like a normal switch port :)

It's a POE input. You can use it to power the switch instead of the AC adapter.

Judging by your original post you're looking at devices that cost far more than you need to spend. You just want a basic unmanaged Gigabit switch (usually under £20).
