How can you determine if adding a fan will improve or decrease cooling performance?

My case has three 12cm intake, a partially open side that is about 1 foot across mesh with another 12 intake, two 12cm exhausts. It has a top 8cm hole for an extra fan.
But I'm thinking of adding one or two 14cm holes for fans or down the road AIO

The placement of the 8cm hole is half way along the top. Is this bad, as air from the front could be pulled up? Maybe I should block that?

If I do drill holes for extra fans on the top, would it be best to place them far to the back as possible, so it's above the CPU and VRM area?
I'm thinking of enlarging the square for one or two 14cm fans, with AIO placement in the future for possible option later on

This is the first time I've seen someone refer to 120mm and 140mm fans as 12cm and 14cm and I'm not sure how I feel about it.

I think you'd be better off getting a new case entirely rather than drilling holes. You can get a good airflow focused case for 60/70 quid at this point that often come with fans included.

Without knowing the rest of your cooling setup it's hard to say if adding more to the current case you have will improve things, generally getting more cool air to your components will make a big difference but you do need to get that warm air out of the case where you can too which is why top/rear exhausts are so common.

Air coolers can also sometimes benefit from only a single top exhaust above - rather than 2 - as the front top exhaust would potentially be pulling any cool air from the front intake fans and exhausting it before it has a chance to run through your heatsink.

Cheers but I recently spent money on the case with new fans and front I/o plus it does what I need

I'll look into a single top hot exhaust if I can get tools to cut into it .

Would you recommend enlarging the square hole to 14cm fan or placing the hole furthest back onto top?
