More fans needed?

Hi guys

The case that I am using is the NZXT 340S. As stock it comes with a rear 120mm exhaust fan and another 120mm exhaust on the top.

It doesn't have any intake fans at all.

However there is space on the front to mount a further 2 fans, do I need to get some?

Yes, a couple good 140mm front intake fans are needed. I would suggest something like the PH-F140SP, PH-F140XP or PH-F140MP depending on how you plan to control them. I like my case fans to cycle with component fans. This means they idle down same as component fans when system is not working hard, but increase in speed and supply cool air to component as components work and speed up. What your motherboard fan headers are capable of will be the determining factor as to using PWM or variable voltage case fans. ;)

I normally setup cases with all unused PCIe back slot covers removed and do not install the I/O shield around the motherbord I/O sockets. This helps improve airflow from front to back around GPU and between CPU and back of case. You might find this guide helpful. https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=26159770&postcount=7

Thanks for the reply.

My current 2 exhaust fans connect directly to a connector from the psu and not into the fan headers in mobo.

If I just do the same on my next 2 that should be ok ?

Also this case does not have any opening on the front to allow air to pass though really, would putting 2 intakes fans on there really provide that much better air flow?

You can plug the fan directly to PSU, but in order for them to move enough air to keep things cool when system is working they will be running quite fast and make quite a bit of noise.

You have venting in front at top and bottom, but it isn't much.
Sorry, I looked at specifications and it said 2x 120/140mm fan mounts. I didn't look at what venting there was to support them. Should have looked, because I know how stupid some of these idiot design engineers are. :( Best bet would be to pop the front off when workig system hard.

Add fans,>140mm fan case roof/2x120mm fan front, so you just need to buy 1x140mm fan+1x120mm fan.

Far better have more air going out then coming in makes the front fans work better.

There is no "more air going in than out". Case will only flow as much air as the lessor of the two. However I like having slightly more airflow potential from filtered intake fans than exhaust fans because it means case 'leaks' a little air out rather than leaking in .. result is less dust problems.
