Cheers all, these were all taken on the Saturday.

I did go on the Sunday but took the family and just the X100. I got a few shots though:

Amazing, whats settings did you use for the high speed shots on the cars with the blackground blurred and apertured out including focusing mode?

On the DLSR I'm usually using 1/60 shutter speed or lower, there were a few I did shoot at 1/80 though. As it's sunny I'm usually at f11-f22 when shooting at these slow speeds, I'll use ISO 50 if it's really bright. I use Servo AF mode on the DSLR.

For the X100 I was at 1/30 to 1/15 shutter speed most of the time. This also has an inbuilt ND filter so I was using that (min ISO speed is 200 on the X100). I did mess up the ISO setting on this though, I thought I had set it manually but it was still on Auto-ISO... oops!

Basically you just want to use the slowest shutter speed you are comfortably with, and pan the camera smoothly with the car :)

great set of photos guys,

but have to ask, on the front of a lot of the cars, there seems to be a piece of metel sticking out, like a sheet of metal mounted vertical facing, what is that for, as so many of the cars seem to have it fitted?

thanks,

The competitive cars are timed up the hill, with various stages of the run also timed. The plate (timing splitter)at the front of the car is to break the timing beams, so is required to be standard on all competition cars.
